LTE-Wi-Fi Link Aggregation (LWA) in 5G

//LTE-Wi-Fi Link Aggregation (LWA) in 5G

LWA involves simultaneous use of both LTE and Wi-Fi technologies.

How Link aggregation works, Link Aggregation and Carrier aggregation, ho Carrier aggregation works, what is LWA, What is LTE-Wi-Fi Aggregation

The LTE eNodeB has the user’s IP packets, and it sends some packets directly to the user on the LTE air interface and forwards some packets directly to the Wi-Fi access point.

The Wi-Fi access point sends the packets to the mobile device using Wi-Fi technology on the unlicensed band.

When a user is in an area that has both cellular coverage and Wi-Fi coverage, parallel transmission using:

a. LTE on licensed spectrum and

b. Wi-Fi on unlicensed spectrum can be carried out to significantly increase throughput for the user.
